Sport and Psychoanalysis: What Sport Reveals about Our Unconscious Desires, Fantasies, and Fears

Full citation

Co-edited with Joseph S. Reynoso. Lexington Books.

This collection explores the meeting point between sport and psychoanalysis, foregrounding the often-overlooked psychosocial dimensions of participation and spectatorship. Challenging the idea that sport offers an escape from everyday politics, its contributors examine the unconscious desires, fantasies and fears that shape the sporting spectacle. The book also asks how sport itself can pose new questions to psychoanalytic theory, bringing thinkers including Freud, Lacan and Fanon into dialogue with topics ranging from coaching and fandom to identity and play.
